Progress Report on Debbie............January 28, 2012.......by Charlie

Debbie has continued to do well this week and is back home in Tennessee. She was released from inpatient status at Shepherd in Atlanta Thursday and we, along with Shepherd, decided to postpone the outpatient Pathways Program for a time and let Debbie have home health therapy and care at this time.
Debbie made the trip home fine Thursday and she and I are both happy to be back at our real home, as she puts it. She still has a long way to go in recovery, both mentally and physically, but we are so very blessed that she has come this far.
Please keep her in your prayers and it's wonderful to start seeing our missed friends again. Thank you all for everything you do. We love you!

Update on Debbie.....January 21, 2012......by Charlie

Debbie has had a good week here at Shepherd. She has endured much therapy in speech, physical and occupational, casts on both her legs and right arm and come through all of it like a champ. She is now cast free with only ankle and arm braces to be worn while sleeping. Her walking has improved and her memory is better.
Today especially, Debbie has seemed more like herself before her injury. She was laughing with me earlier and making some wise cracks. Our Lord is good!
She goes on outpatient status Thursday the 26th and will enter the Shepherd Pathways Advanced Rehab Program. If the therapy meets our expectations and can be tolerated, she will be in this program three to four weeks with week-ends off. We are both wanting to come home as she has expressed this desire several times today alone.
I know you are diligent in your prayers that this week's change goes well and for Deb's continued healing. Thank you so much for all you do. We love you and may God bless you.

Jan. 15, 2012 Note on Debbie.......by Charlie

Just a brief note:
Debbie and I attended worship services at Shepherd today where Debbie led the group in singing Amazing Grace after the message! This led to many wonderful testimonies and praises to our Lord from the group. What a blessing! Thank you Jesus!!!

Update on Debbie..1-14-2012....by Charlie

Debbie has had busy week of physical, occupational and speech therapy with improvements in each and her attitude continues to amaze me. God is good!
Deb's physical therapist has cast both her legs from below the knee down to her feet to help straighten her ankles. They will be removed early next week and braces made to assist her in walking. Debbie is not too happy with the casts but is tolerating them. They even used a "bionic" brace on Deb's weak leg earlier this week and she was able to walk up and down steps. Lots going on at Shepherd.
Occupational therapy has planned a cast for Deb's right wrist and hand to help in it's healing. She is also on a rigid exercise program.
Her speech therapists are also impressed with her and she attends group meetings and participates with others with similar injuries. Dr. Bowman is optimistic about Deb's memory but predicts it will be 6 months to a year for any significant improvement, however, we know our Great Physician can change that.
Debbie is scheduled to be discharged from Shepherd January 26th as inpatient and changed to outpatient status in their Pathways Program. She will live with me in our apartment here at Shepherd for three to four weeks and I will care for her and take her to her therapy daily. They will assist us as needed which should be quite a challenge as slow as I am.
We hope to be back home in Crossville by the end of February. Thank you for your calls, cards, and continued prayers for us. May God bless each of you. We miss you!

Update on Debbie...1-07-2012......by Charlie

Debbie continues to do well at Shepherd. Therapists are evaluating her and Dr. Bowman is "fine tuning" her medicines. She seems to like it here.
Today Deb and I enjoyed visitation of two of her cousins and her Aunt Bobbie from Cleveland, GA, and tomorrow her sister, three cousins and her Aunt Nita are planning to visit.
Debbie has a busy schedule next week and I have some sessions to attend also. She has therapy Monday through Friday and half of Saturday. Saturday afternoons and Sundays are rest times.
Thank each of you for continued prayer for her and for all kindnesses shown to us. Our Lord is answering. May you have a blessed week.

Just a quick note to let you know Debbie arrived at Shepherd Center Wed. the 4th. She has adapted well to her new surroundings and is napping now after her first full day of therapy. So far Shepherd appears to be a great place for a patient to have a good chance for improvement.....Good people, good care, good facility and also good food.
Visitation hours are 4pm to 9pm Mon thru Friday and all day Sat and Sun. The address Debbie Hesson, Room 270, Shepherd Center, 2020 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta,GA 30309-1465.
Will keep you posted on Deb's progress. Thank each of you for your prayers and we hope you are having a great New Year.
